Quick answer: one boss, two phases
Bai Chilian is the Crimson Forest boss at the end of Mirrorwood, according to Maxroll. Lady of the Twin Serpents and Sacrificial Serpent are phases of the same encounter. Protect Sha-Chi, respond to each flash rather than memorizing a fixed combo, and check the kill warning below before finishing the fight. This is a source-based guide, not our own playtest.
Before the kill: check unfinished quests
Before the kill: check unfinished quests
Maxroll warns that killing Bai Chilian fails Festering Secret and A Healer's Mercy if unfinished, and locks out the Boulderguard Accessory if not already obtained. This warning comes from one reviewed source, not independent confirmation. Check those objectives before the kill; we have not established exact quest stages or a reload, backtracking or NG+ recovery method.
Location reference, not a walking route
Maxroll places the fight at the end of Mirrorwood in Crimson Forest. Rock Paper Shotgun lists Threadbound Great Tree as the nearest Bell. This identifies the area and a reference point, not the turns from the Bell to the arena. Story-entry requirements and an exact route are not established here.
Read the flash and conserve Sha-Chi
Maxroll recommends timed blocks rather than holding block through flurries, which can drain Sha-Chi and leave you broken. Blue flash: parry with a correctly timed block to trigger Ghost Step. Red flash: dodge to trigger Ghost Step. Black flash: dodge to avoid heavy Sha-Chi loss from blocking. Black is not described here as universally unblockable; no exact timing windows or button bindings are established.
Phase 1: distinguish the two snake summons
When four snakes appear during a combo, create space with lateral evasion instead of staying in their path on low Sha-Chi. For the line of jumping snakes, Maxroll recommends dodging left as the line moves left to right. That direction is the author's advice, not a camera-independent guarantee. Identify which summon you are facing before reacting.
Phase 1: black flash followed by pressure
For black flash plus a snake, dodge the black flash: blocking can leave too little Sha-Chi for the snake that follows. For black flash into ordinary attacks and then red flash, dodge black, defend the ordinary hits, then dodge/counter the red flash. Do not treat the whole sequence as either continuous blocking or blind repeated dodging.
Phase 1: blue flash after the flurry
Maxroll describes a flurry followed by a summoned snake and blue flash. Prioritize the correctly timed block against blue: the source says that counter's invulnerability protects against the accompanying snake. This is advice for that combination, not proof of immunity to every snake attack or a measured invulnerability duration.
When to attack, and why long animations can fail
Maxroll identifies openings after responding to blue or red flashes. Outlaw Warblade's unleash power and a Phantom Edge such as Dread Axe are optional author suggestions, not required equipment. A stagger or incapacitation opportunity in phase 1 does not promise the same result in phase 2, where Bai Chilian can fly away during your animation. Avoid committing to a long attack simply because it worked earlier.
Phase 2: Sacrificial Serpent and the retry boundary
Sacrificial Serpent is the second phase, not another boss to find. Maxroll reports that dying during phase 2 does not require repeating phase 1. That report does not establish persistence after quitting, reloading or changing difficulty. Keep reading the actual attacks rather than relying on a checkpoint claim outside its documented scope.
Phase 2: the long combo has variations
One Maxroll example runs from black flash to a diving multi-hit strike, a single strike and double strike, a whirling attack, snakes and a blue flash. It is not a fixed script: black is not always the opener and the ending can be red instead. Defend the intermediate hits and read the finishing signal: timed block for blue, dodge for red.
Conditional aid near 80%: The Chord
According to Maxroll, The Chord's illusion intervenes around 80% health in phase 2 only if you completed her Memory Flowers. The health threshold alone is not enough. During that transition the boss cannot be targeted directly; the source recommends killing the snakes around the outside of the arena. The ally then uses ranged attacks, but this is not a guarantee of winning on every difficulty.
No ally appeared? Check the Memory Flowers condition
The condition reported by Maxroll is completing The Chord’s Memory Flowers, not simply reaching 80%. The exact flowers, count and activation order remain unconfirmed, as does backtracking for each save state. A regional flower total is not a checklist for her quest, and reloading is not a verified fix. Without the ally, continue responding to the phase-2 flashes.
Phase 2: the vortex sequence
For the vortex sequence, Maxroll's response order is: dodge the first black flash, dodge the second black flash, parry the whirling attack, then dodge the final red flash. The whirl is the timed-block step; do not turn this into an all-dodge instruction. This sequence is distinct from the variable long combo above.
Rewards listed by Rock Paper Shotgun
Rock Paper Shotgun lists “White Serpent & Crimson Viper” and “Resonance Talisman” as rewards. The first is a single entry in that list. Item stats, drop rates and the pickup procedure are not confirmed.
