Phantom Blade Zero Weapons: Phantom Edges, Swapping & Materials

Learn the sourced role of main weapons and Phantom Edges, Sha-Chi swapping, material recovery and exploration tools.

How many weapons are there?

Checked 2026-10-29: the safe summary is dozens of main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges. S-Game's August 17 PlayStation Blog deep dive says more than 30 main weapons plus 25 secondary weapons. Game Informer's October 28 beginner guide instead says 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges. Its implied total of 55 is therefore a launch-guide count, not an independently confirmed exact official final total. Neither article is a complete weapon catalogue.

Swap weapons to manage Sha-Chi and experiment

The October 28 PlayStation Blog weapon article says switching between your two equipped main weapons quickly refills Sha-Chi; its default controller instruction is left on the D-pad, which may differ after remapping. Game Informer notes the other weapon then has a cooldown, so swapping is a rotation tool rather than an unlimited refill claim. The August official deep dive says reforging can return invested materials for another weapon, making it easier to test movesets instead of treating every upgrade as permanent commitment.

Phantom Edges also open exploration routes

The official October 28 article describes some Phantom Edges as both combat tools and ways to break barriers or grapple to previously inaccessible places. Note blocked paths and revisit after gaining relevant tools; this is a general exploration principle, not a verified location-by-location unlock route. The same article says completing a story's Memory Flower set increases Soul's health. Our evidence does not support an exact universal bonus percentage, strongest-weapon ranking or a complete list of acquisition locations.

Dread Axe · Destructive Phantom Edge

Maxroll lists Dread Axe in Weeping Creek Valley, but its table does not supply a step-by-step acquisition route. Against Hua, PC Gamer recommends charging to the first blue indicator near the end of a stun window to knock her down and extend the opening. This is a combat recommendation, not an acquisition condition or an infinite loop.

Feather Bow · Ranged Phantom Edge

Maxroll places Feather Bow in Weeping Creek Valley and classifies it as Ranged. The table does not name a chest, enemy or purchase condition. Reinforced Bowstring is listed as a Soul Tempering material, not the requirement for first obtaining the bow.

Hunter's Chain Sickle · Martial Phantom Edge

Maxroll locates Hunter's Chain Sickle in Weeping Creek Valley. Its exploration use includes reaching otherwise inaccessible terrain. The Four Fierce Axes route uses this tool to reach the Sha-Chi Tower key; owning the tool and obtaining that key are different steps. The weapon table alone is not a complete pickup route.

Illusory Pipa · Artifice and transformation

Maxroll’s Phantom Edges table (2026-10-29) links Heartrend Pipa in Village of Lu to Illusory Pipa, listed in Pangzhen. For the repair dependencies, use the linked Crimson Manor repair section, based on Sean Martin’s PC Gamer guide (2026-10-29): it distinguishes parts and later repair, rather than treating the names as two separate base drops. The Backplate is collected from a table after the Mandate Encampment final boss, not assumed to drop automatically.

Scarlet Wraithblade · Hua weapon reward

Defeat Hua beneath Sha-Chi Tower to obtain Scarlet Wraithblade. It is a weapon reward, not an additional Phantom Edge entry. PlayStation Blog describes combos summoning spider lilies that slow enemies; PC Gamer separately describes explosive lilies. Those reports do not establish identical timing or one combined tested effect. See the Hua fight and Flesh Lily routes for the battle and separate corpse pickup.

Why a 24-row table does not settle the 25 count

The Maxroll table has 24 entries, including Heartrend Pipa and its Illusory Pipa form. That is a table-entry count, not a verified count of distinct base weapons. The older official 25-secondary-weapon statement above uses a different source and scope; this table neither proves nor disproves it. Scarlet Wraithblade is a weapon reward from Hua, not a 25th Phantom Edge.

Choose for the situation, not a universal tier list

Media recommendations, not a universal tier list: Tenkiei’s Maxroll weapons guide (2026-11-02) weighs ease of use, acquisition timing and difficult-boss usefulness. For bleed damage, consider Jagged Steel; for sustain, Outlaw Warblade drains life, but its initial Sha-Chi combo costs health and its healing improves with upgrades. The Maxroll guide also recommends carrying Livingwood Talisman when using Outlaw Warblade against Puppets, Phantoms or Golden Body enemies. Seamless Death rewards dodging with an afterimage that fires when struck; Sundering Dual Axes offers more damage with fully stacked Baleful Aura, but frequent hits and interruptions undermine that benefit. Tenkiei’s Phantom Edges guide (updated 2026-11-02) weighs ease of use, timing and damage, explicitly excluding traversal utility. For control and armor break, Dread Axe is an early option, but its stagger does not stop attacks with super armor. For closing distance, Hunter's Chain Sickle retains pull utility; Fire Meteor trades that utility for damage. Following Tenkiei / Maxroll’s late-game replacement advice, once you obtain Bashpole you can consider it as an alternative to Dread Axe: it serves a similar role with better area of effect (AoE) and ease of use, not greater strength in every situation. These are the author’s conditional comparisons, not our playtest results. The location table alone still does not provide complete pickup routes for the four older Phantom Edge entries above; the reward pointers below are not complete routes either.

Jagged Steel · early bleed and its limits

Jagged Steel · early bleed and its limits

According to Sean Martin, PC Gamer (2026-10-29), obtain Jagged Steel from the first boss he describes, also named Jagged Steel. Its Blood Blade buff increases bleed buildup and damage; at level 5, the special attack unlocked at level 5 against guard-broken enemies grants a Blood Blade stack. Do not rely on bleed against Puppets, Golden Bodies or Phantom Bodies without Livingwood Talisman: PC Gamer says the accessory enables bleed on those bodies at 50% effectiveness. This is an early bleed option with an enemy-type limitation, not a guaranteed best weapon for every fight.

Bashpole · boss reward pointer

Bashpole · boss reward pointer

Ollie Toms’ Rock Paper Shotgun boss list (2026-10-30) associates Bashpole with the reward entry for Wan Jun, The Coppermaul in Mandate Encampment, nearest Bell: Battlefield Ruins. Use that as a boss/region pointer, not a turn-by-turn route or a claim of automatic pickup. For the locked regional entrance, follow the linked Outer Gate Key section (Sean Martin, PC Gamer, 2026-10-29); getting the key is separate from obtaining Bashpole inside the region.

Flaming Mane · dormant reward stage

Flaming Mane · dormant reward stage

For Flaming Mane, distinguish the reward stage: Ollie Toms, Rock Paper Shotgun (2026-10-30), lists Dormant Flaming Mane for Flame, The Mask-Bound Lion Dance Grandmaster in Pangzhen, nearest Bell: Lion Dance Hall Depths. This points to the dormant reward, not a ready-to-use Flaming Mane. A complete repair sequence is not established here; do not treat defeating this boss as the full repair chain.
