Where Dusk is and what this page covers
PC Gamer places the secret boss Dusk in Village of Lu, beyond the Temple of Blue Fireflies barrier. This is an access and progress reference based on retained articles, not our own playtest or a complete combat guide. Start with Firefly's six flowers; after the encounter, check whether you have only the Illusory Pipa Head or the materials for a repaired instrument.
Open the Temple barrier: six flowers, not a fixed route
According to Maxroll, finding any Firefly Memory Flower starts Secrets at the Heart of the Lake. Collect all six in this quest group, then return to Temple of Blue Fireflies and open the barrier. PC Gamer describes dropping down beyond it to reach Dusk. The six entries below follow Maxroll's labels, not a compulsory collection order or a list of every Memory Flower in the region. If the barrier remains after all six, these sources do not establish a reset or repair procedure.
I — Heart of the Lake
Maxroll locates this flower near the start of Village of Lu: cross the bridge and look for hanging blue lanterns left of the room where Zhuo Bi was fought. Use those landmarks to check your collection, not as a measured route from the nearest Bell.
II — Phantom Art Illusionist's Flower
Maxroll places this near Well of the Three puppets. Drop down to explore the river, then follow it upstream to its source. This is the retained author's landmark description, not a new map pin or a personally tested traversal.
III — The Herald
Maxroll identifies the vicinity of Zhang's Hideout in Village of Lu. The retained description gives no coordinates or exact turn-by-turn approach; do not confuse this flower's name with the later Herald-related barriers.
IV — The Source of the Calamity
Maxroll places this in the Terraces, near the place where the third master's soul is freed. This is a location cue; the numbering does not require collecting it fourth.
V — No Word
Maxroll places this across the covered bridge and says the red thread barrier must first be dispelled to access the area. The retained passage does not explain how to remove that barrier. This checklist cannot supply a verified solution to that separate prerequisite.
VI — The Acolyte
Maxroll places this flower at Temple of Blue Fireflies. Compare it with the other five named entries before returning to the Temple barrier; this quest group should not be confused with flowers needed elsewhere.
Nearest Bell versus reward Bell
Nearest Bell versus reward Bell
Rock Paper Shotgun lists Broken Puppet Pit Entrance as the closest previous Bell and associates Puppeteer's Bell and Illusory Pipa Head with Dusk. The checkpoint name and the reward name describe different things. The source does not establish what Puppeteer's Bell equips, summons or unlocks; its name is not evidence of a door-opening function.
You have the Head, but is the Pipa repaired?
You have the Head, but is the Pipa repaired?
PC Gamer says Dusk provides Illusory Pipa Head. Maxroll's Crimson Manor guide agrees on that association. Maxroll also identifies Broken Illusory Pipa from Bai Chilian as the instrument to repair, separate from the three repair parts. The Head alone is not the repaired Illusory Pipa: you also need Backplate and Strings, then return to Myst in the Order's underground tavern in Pangzhen to repair it. PC Gamer places Backplate on a table after the final boss of Mandate Encampment and associates Strings with Yan Qiansui. This is a progress check, not their full acquisition route. If the Head is missing after victory, the retained sources do not provide a verified recovery method.
A repaired Pipa does not open every barrier
A repaired Pipa does not open every barrier
PC Gamer points to the Pipa barrier in northeastern Meigu Lake; Maxroll calls the route onward Weeping Mistgate, leading into Mountain of Imprisonment. This is not the Crimson Manor door: PC Gamer's Manor guide requires Puppet's Tongue after three Herald's Illusion portals. Maxroll separately requires four masks for Four Guardians' Mirror. Do not treat the Head, repaired instrument, Tongue and masks as interchangeable keys. Continue with the existing Crimson Manor guide rather than repeating its whole quest here.
Quick progress checks before retracing your steps
Temple barrier still present? Match your collection against the six Maxroll entries and return to the Temple; no guaranteed reload fix is documented. Dusk defeated but Myst cannot repair the instrument? Check Head, Backplate and Strings rather than assuming another Dusk victory is required. Pipa repaired but a door remains closed? Identify which barrier it is before following the Manor or Four Guardians requirements. These are source-based checks, not reproduced bug diagnoses.
Sources and limits
This page uses historically retained PC Gamer, Maxroll and Rock Paper Shotgun articles, not a fresh source fetch or first-hand gameplay. PC Gamer supplies the secret-boss entry and Pipa progress; Maxroll supplies each of the six flower landmarks and its return-to-Temple instruction; Rock Paper Shotgun supplies the nearest Bell and reward names. Maxroll's brief combat remarks are not expanded into a move list here. No verified red-thread solution, reward-loss fix, combat timings or mandatory flower order is claimed. Proper names remain in English where an official translation is unverified.
